When the second amendment was devised the targets of this private “universal” possession of arms was for the exclusively white citizens recognized by the Constitution: it excluded women of course and people under age, which was then around 21. But the targets were the English if they tried to come back, Bears, Grizzlies, and other animals that could be skinned and eaten, and as an underclass Indians who had to be hunted like animals though their meat could not be eaten and their skin was of no use, and finally black slaves though in daily practice it was a lot funnier to beat them, whip them, rape them, torture them, force them to play gladiators to the death, fight against rabid dogs, etc. They were to be used and exploited in all possible ways provided these ways were slow and cruel, which they would have hesitated to do to Indians because of possible retaliations that could leave the Indians dead but also quite a few whites because the Indians were fierce fighters.
