I am starting a full coverage of about 12 films by or with John Wayne. I have hardly watched his films at all in the past for various reasons, like killing Indians, and because my late eldest brother only swore by them. He was a fly taken by the sugary white caucasian racist crystallized approach of these primitive, if not barbarian, Indians. It is high time to reassess this actor and his films. They are built with a lot of stereotypes that target the Western public after 1945, and even beyond. It was an essential cultural apparatus targeting that public to enable the USA to play a leading role in the world.

True Grits is symbolic of ultimate crimes with the number three of the Christian Trinity, and the six — maybe seven, who knows, the Holy Week? — victims lying down in the dirt like a yellow Star of David, abandoned by some Auschwitz “tourist” that had no return ticket. Not easy to be a woman in this world and to look for vengeance, which is unacceptable in any decent world of decent decency. The Trinity again.
