Oh yes, what a fight and it is not finished. In the theater field we have the integration of black actors in main white roles. Same thing with the opera and black sopranos singing obviously what has always been seen as white roles. The cinema is not different. I hope you protested against Tom Cruise playing a Samurai. And you insist in daily real life on the fact that all American actors must have the proper proportion of Indian and Black blood in their veins corresponding to the same mixture in the veins of the character. And what about Dustin Hoffman playing the part of an autistic man? Isn’t it scandalous? What about actors playing the parts of criminals, serial killers, cops or whatever that they are not and will never be? You are mixing up cinema and real life. And what about religion? Can a Christian play the role of a Muslim, a Hindu play the role of a Buddhist? Politically correct is absurd. The artistic value of what is produced is the only interest in any work of art. I do not care Benjamin Britten was gay and I can say that I have not found any real direct mention of homosexual males in his operas … so far…. I still have a handful to work on. Shouldn’t we expect and demand all his characters to be gay males?
