… not the patch we need. A weekly handout doesn’t promote economic equality — much less empowerment. The only meaningful change we can make to the economic operating system is to distribute ownership, control, and governance of the real world to the people who live in it.
Not as simple as it seems. As for UBI Finland tried it and dropped the experiment after a short while. It seems only Denmark still has it for some categories of people. It means you have to satisfy yourself with that small amount of money and in exchange, you have nothing to do to get it, not even learn how to read and write. It is the social welfare of the lazy. It is unethical and morally dangerous. It existed in the “socialist countries of old” and I experienced it in East Germany. It leads to mediocrity and the absence of creativity and innovation. It means one pair of exactly the same shoes for everyone every six months.
