WELCOME

Dear Colleagues,

I apologize for not giving any news, but the situation at Covid 19 in Brazil has been very serious and teachers like me have been overwhelmed with the work of preparing classes for students who are isolated in their homes, having to study in very precarious conditions.

The main purpose of the 18th Circular is to inform you that the dead line for submitting abstracts for the presentation of posters and for the regular sessions have been extended to March 3rd, 2021. I reiterate that you check whether your name is correct, in the right Session or if it is not missing, in the Extended Provisional Program

The honorary members of ISAPL, Prof. Leonor Scliar-Cabral (Florianopolis, Brazil) and Prof. Maria da Graça Pinto (Porto, Portugal) along with the ISAPL Board members and the Presidents of the 12th International Congress, Profs. João Torrão and Maria Teresa Roberto (Aveiro, Portugal) welcome and invite all scholars and students interested in the area of Applied Psycholinguistics to participate in the Congress and in its scientific, social, and cultural activities. This important Scientific Meeting provides an exciting opportunity to share information on research with colleagues from around the world, integrating basic scientific research with practical applications for the benefit of human modern life.

The special emphasis topic of the Congress is on NEW PERSPECTIVES IN PSYCHOLINGUISTIC RESEARCH: LANGUAGE, CULTURE, TECHNOLOGIES, having in view what Cultural and Applied Psycholinguistics can offer for the benefit of our contemporary world.

We hope that the congress will attract a lot of scholars and colleagues working in practical areas, in basic research, or teaching in schools and universities, for a scientific, academic collaboration.

In this Circular, we will repeat a brief presentation about the University of Aveiro, which will host the event and give more information to facilitate your participation in the Congress.

In the 18th Circular, we repeat the Extended Provisional Program, with the objective of making adjustments, should the proponents so wish, as well as verifying whether any of the proposals no longer appears. Many of the announced abstracts still need reformulations that were requested, but we still have not received them.

History of the University

The University of Aveiro is a public institution and was created in 1973, in a context of higher education renewal in Portugal, becoming a reference university.In 2011, the UA was considered one of the best universities in Europe and the best in Portugal, according to the British magazine Times Higher Education (THE) ranking.UA is at the forefront of university research in Portugal, according to a study by the Universidade Nova de Lisboa former Rector, Luís Sousa Lobo, which shows that each UA professor publishes an average of 1.5 scientific articles per year.The Santiago Campus has natural spaces, housing about 40 buildings: teaching, research, administrative and technical support buildings, residences, canteens, bars, pharmacy, libraries, bookstore, stationery, university health center, store University, sports complex (with athletics track), rooms for shows and conferences, galleries for exhibitions, children's garden and day care.In addition, the hospital is right next to the university: All the study, research, support, cultural, sports and leisure infrastructures are in a single space, offering practically all the necessary conditions to those who belong to the UA academic community.

Regular session or poster abstracts

Write your abstract in English, though Portuguese, Italian, French or Spanish are accepted, no more than 500 words) and the title (no more than 10 words) on the ‘12th ISAPL Congress SUBMISSION FORM’, at this Circular end. The topic should be framed in one of the special Congress themes listed above. Send back the fulfilled form to the e-mail indicated in the Form. Each individual free session presentation will take 15 min + 5 min. for discussion

As a result of the 12º ISAPL International Congress new dates, the deadlines for registration at the Congress were changed, as shown in the table below.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is March 15, 2021.

Registration for the Congress, ISAPL fees as well as the banquet reservation and respective payments will be made through the official Congress website. Below, the values, with the exception of the banquet that is still being budgeted.

Students have 50% discount, but for getting it, they must add their institution attesting.

To register with the Congress, the proponent needs to be up to date with his/her membership fee at ISAPL. The fee covering the period 2021–2025 is 50 Euros. Non-members should sign up the membership form.

The 12º ISAPL International Congress success depends on the diligent work of student volunteers. If you would like to help at the Congress in return for the registration fee waiver, please contact us.
