JOHN WAYNE — McLINTOCK ! — 1963

IS SPANKING A GOOD TAMING STRATEGY?

We are in a territory, not yet a state. There are some Indians this time, some just out of federal prison, some others on, or rather from, a Comanche reservation, but they came to the city named after C.W. McLintock to welcome back their tribal leaders released from federal prison. And they will have to face the hostility of the farmers who want to have cheap land, and all the racist people in the white population who only want to see Indians hanging from any supporting branch or gallows. Lynching or mob execution was also easy with Indians, even maybe easier than with Blacks.

It is a farce around a big, marge, and enormous rancher who has problems with his wife. She had left him but just came back to take care of their daughter, Rebecca. Rebecca is just back from a university in an eastern state. The mother, Katherine, is a shrew, not the nice little animal you can find in your garden, a real shrew from the Shakespearean species that has to be tamed and will be tamed at the end with a forceful spanking.
